State Street in Germany State Street has been providing exceptional service to Germany's investment community since we first opened the doors to State Street Bank GmbH Munich in 1970. Initially established to meet primarily the needs of European investors and European-based affiliates of U.S. companies, we expanded our operations in January 1996. That is when we began offering a more comprehensive array of investment services, including depotbank services for special funds, performance and analytics, treasury services and investment management. And with no commercial or retail banking operations to distract us from this primary focus, we have been able to continually direct significant technology spending to these and other core institutional services, like custody and accounting. In 2003, State Street acquired a substantial part of Deutsche Bank's Global Securities Service business. In addition to strengthening our position as the leading provider of services to sophisticated investors around the globe, the acquisition also enables us to now support clients in Germany from two locations — Frankfurt and Munich. Our clients include an impressive array of Germany's most sophisticated investment organisations, including pension funds, supranational organisations, large corporations, insurance companies, banks and investment managers.
